Student moves to national singing competition, needs votes

Brittany Davis, music theater junior

Brittany Davis took one step closer to a dream Friday. The music theater junior won Oklahoma’s regional CMT Country Strong Singing Challenge and will be featured on CMT.com.

Davis was chosen as the regional grand prize winner from a pool of 27 local singers. Davis sang the song “Country Strong” a cappella in front of a panel of local celebrity judges. Judges included a recording artist, radio DJs, and a KFOR-TV personality, said Michelle Langston, publicist for Sony Entertainment. Entrants were judged on their execution, originality and stage presence, she said.

“Brittany was chosen for her fantastic voice,” Langston said. “She is incredibly talented.
“We could not have been more pleased with the judges selection. This is a big deal.”

Davis won $500 and a special advanced screening for her and her friends of “Country Strong.” She now will compete against 16 other regional winners to win the national grand prize. The prize consists of a:

-Tour of CMT offices and a visit to the set of and possible appearance on CMT’s “Top 20 Countdown” show,
-Possible “meet & greet” with a Sony Nashville Music executive,
-Filming by CMT representatives of the grand prize winner and his or her travel companion throughout portions of their Nashville travel experience,
-Recordings made by CMT of the winner’s experience and the opportunity for the grand prize winner to experience his or her own recording session at CMT’s CMT 330 Studio,
– And recording the authorized song that the grand prize winner performed in his or her winning taped performance, according to official contest rules.

The national grand prize winner is determined by the public’s votes, Langston said. Voting will begin Dec. 10 at cmt.com.

“I would be so incredibly thankful and honored to have you vote for this contest with CMT.com,” Davis said. “I know it’s going to be hectic with finals but if you have any down time please go online and vote.
“This truly is a chance of a lifetime for me and I really need your help to make this happen.”
